early morning mint fields & so very dear

Deerfield in the early morning light.
The sun barely peeking over the edge our hills and making rainbows through the arcs of the sprinklers.
We raise acres and acres of peppermint for tea.
Plenty of good water, cool nights, the warm sun of the high desert and growing on the 45th parallel make this the most sought after mint leaf for our German tea buyers.
They tell us that the taste is the best in the world.
Such an honor for us for we are but a small farm compared to all those in the world who grow mint for tea.
Just this morning, the sun barely peeking over the hills, my husband called me to the new mint fields where he had found this new baby sleeping in the mint, his momma and twin not far away.
Wearing my boots & my nightgown-6" deep in mud, I quietly knelt down and the wee spotted baby let me take his likeness.
He is about as big as a cat, so tiny and more than likely just a day old.
Each spring the deer come down from the hills into our fields and my gardens and make themselves quite at home.
Surely most of them were born here and they have their babies here.
There are so many deer here on Deerfield that you can imagine why we call it Deerfield.
The dearest place on earth.

No you did not!!! You did not get that close to that amazing creature to get that picture-- Oh dearie dear DEER! It's so beautiful I can't stand it. How could you possibly resist scooping it up and snuggling the day away. I can't believe the mother let you take the photo. And I will tell you I would tromp out there in my nightgown too to see that beautiful sight.
Thanks so much for sharing this Christe'. Just amazingly beautiful. Took my breath away.

oh yes, I did indeed...mud up to my -you know-Their instinct tells them to be as still as possible..he wouldn't have moved unless he was startled. oh I would love to cuddle one, but they bleat and momma comes a runnin'. I have to resist touching them, although I really wanted to.
The mother was in the next field of barley with the other baby who seemed smaller than this one. Our deer are so tame,Lauren, they come up on my porch in the wee hours of the morning in summer and eat my roses off at the nubs. They sleep on the lawn with their babies, they have dinner in my blackberry & raspberry patches, they eat roses for breakfast.
If you were here right this very minute,we'd walk right out to his little nest and see him sleeping. Bring your nightgown...that's the best outfit to wear "dear hunting".
I'm so glad you enjoyed him.
happy weekend to you,dear Lauren.

Lauren sent me to see....and it reminded me of the time I rescued a trapped fawn. It sat in my lap for an hour in the back of a car while my friend found the rescue agency. It never moved except to bat its enormously long lashes. No sound, just shut down until released. Nature's way of making it survive, seamless to the world except when snared in yards of deer netting. We were told that mother leaves them alone for as long as 48 hours. Put it back where she could find it again. And scrubbed in the shower to be sure I got the Lyme ticks off. Lovely photo and blog too.

How beautiful, Christe'. I have a family of deer here...a few weeks ago one of the mamas stood right outside my office window - mayb 5 feet away and looked at me as if to say, "Why are you in there and not out here?"

thank you everyone, I'm so glad that you enjoyed seeing little of my world here.
Last evening we walked out into the field and there was momma and her 2 babies having a little dinner. There was no sound but for the meadlowlarks and the warm breeze ruffling the mint and the scent is just amazing. I wish you all could come for a visit. Lying on your back in a field of mint is just heaven. Cool and delicious. Nothing but deep blue sky above and soft mint to lie on.
Pure heaven to me.

The pictures is just so charming.
There was a bay deer on my field once at frecklefarm, I saw once but since we had a herd of deer that lived there in sanctuary there were many deer born there. I love enjoyed watching them so much.

Your fields are exquisite.
And your dolls are just beautiful. I would love to send visitors from frecklearm over to see all your beautiful dolls and lovely life postings. Would you like to link?

Thank-you for stopping by Robin Sherwood frecklefarm, Please stop by again. It is such a delightful time when you visit.

So very very dear and so adorable! You really have a little bit of heaven where you live.

And all that mint! It must be heaven. I use mint in everything, fresh in salads, dried in everything from soups to plain yogurt. I grew up in a mint household! How wonderful that you grow it and export it.

I've always suspected that Deerfield Farmhouse and it's surroundings must be a very special place, and indeed it is. Your lovely work reflects the beauty that is found when one lives from the heart. I am thinking that the scent from the mint must be wonderful, and I can't help but think of mint infused tea and lemonade! It is very warm here today. I've just come in from planting 6 windowboxes full of pale pink geraniums. Perhaps I'd better go and fill a glass!
Thank you for sharing this special place and the story of this sweet creature with the rest of us.
Thank you too, for the kind words you left in Merryville. I appreciate you taking the time.
