the road not taken...

Whenever I'm out walking in the hills around our farm,
the wind in my face, the sky overhead
and the hills around me.
It's then that the beginnings,
the middles and endings of poems
that I love...
by
Thoreau or Robert Frost come to mind.
maybe you do this, too? I hope so.
When I first saw this picture that my little grandson, Ethan, took,
my first thought was
"wow...just look what Ethan did"
and then I heard
"I took the one less traveled by
and that has made all the difference."
You see the old farmer is "precariously perched"
on an unfamiliar road
and yet he looks quite satisfied with the view....
ah yes,
The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood,
and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

This is how I remember you, and where I get it from...always making something more out of a simple thing...I know you'll understand when I say that it is the same beautiful quality as seeing beauty in a dirty pig out in the farmyard, or making new fresh curtains from an old sheet for an even older apartment house...you have a Quality of Spirit that I always hope to keep with me and to give my kids...finding beauty & meaning in every small sprig of grass and each little drop of rain. I love you so much for that.

Thank you Christe' for sharing a poem that I love and for sharing the beauty of how it simply connected you and your family at home. I enjoy looking through your eyes...

dear Christine, I've been thinking of you with all the snowy weather near by (or on top of ya). We here in VA, have none. Winter is on vacation here.
Hope all is well.

Smiles,
Becky
